Post-COVID Updates — Places that you can travel to right now!

With the amount of inoculated people rising every day, the more the world is ready to open its borders for travel. Countries are eager to get tourism back to normal since tourism is a huge part of some countries’ economies. Some are even open right now. Here are some countries that you can visit as a tourist right now.

Maldives

The Maldives has been open to tourists of any nationality ever since the 15th of July, 2020. As the second wave of the pandemic struck several countries, the tropical country has had to adjust its measures. Effective 3 May 2021, the travel requirements are as follows.

The Health Protection Agency of the Republic of Maldives has made it mandatory for all tourists to present a negative Nucleic Acid Test (PCR Test) for Covid-19 upon arrival. The sample for this test must be taken at most 96 hours before the scheduled departure time from the first port of embarkation going to the Maldives. The aforementioned requirements don’t apply to children below 1-year-old. For more information, visit: visitmaldives.com/en/covid19-updates

Seychelles

Although there are safety protocols instituted, the tourism-reliant East African country of Seychelles remains open to tourists. According to a travel advisory released by Seychelles’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism updated on May 6th, 2021, Seychelles is ready to welcome all visitors regardless of their vaccination status. However, they must have a negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate taken within 72 hours prior to travel. “However, visitors who have been in Bangladesh, Brazil, India, Pakistan, and South Africa within the 14 days preceding arrival to Seychelles will, unfortunately, be restricted entry.”

For tourists, free movement is allowed as long as there is compliance with public health measures. Additionally, all visitors require a Health Travel Authorization for entry and this can be accomplished online on seychelles.govtas.com/.

Bulgaria

Similar to the above countries, Bulgaria allows entry to tourists as long as they have either one of the three requirements. An inbound visitor must either have a vaccination certificate, a negative test result from a PCR or an antigen test within the past 72 hours, or a document proving that the individual has recovered from the coronavirus infection within the past 6 months.

Romania

This Eastern European country partially allows tourist entry with certain conditions. Overall, testing will not be required for entry and although tourists are allowed, the tourists and accommodations are subject to local guidelines. “Entry from EU Member States or Schengen Associated countries is allowed without restrictions, except for high-risk countries. Travelers from Australia, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Rwanda, Singapore, Thailand, and Uruguay can also enter without restrictions if not on the high-risk list.” Vaccination is highly recommended before entry. Ecuador

The Ecuadorian government allows vaccinated tourists entry to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, but borders to neighboring Peru and Colombia are still closed. In line with this, commercial flights have also resumed operation. For vaccinated travelers, a complete COVID-19 vaccination card can be presented in place of a negative RT-PCR or rapid test result, effective 22 March 2021. Entering Ecuador can still be possible without being vaccinated, though. A negative RT-PCR or rapid test result taken no more than 10 days before departure is required for those who haven’t been inoculated yet. Despite all this, all passengers upon entry must sign a declaration form, provide their local contact details, and itinerary and are subject to random antigen tests conducted by the Ministry of Health.
